Holidays, birthdays, and other celebrations are times when you want your food to be as festive as the day. Sometimes that means making a traditional food. Other times, that means taking a food you love and dressing it up for the occasion!
Our Independence Day celebrations looked a little different this year and we celebrated at home. I made these star spangled macarons for us to share with some friends who have had a tough week. Apparently, my french macarons are a favorite of theirs as well. I didn’t balk at making a French dessert on Independence Day. History notes (and it was confirmed by watching “HAMILTON” ) the French did aid in our fight for independence, so it’s only right to give them a nod on this holiday.
I was thrilled with the end result and just had to share the techniques with you. The colors and sprinkles can be adjusted depending on your style or celebration needs. I would be wary of using any heavy sprinkles, or using too many sprinkles as that may inhibit your macarons from rising properly. These little gold stars, which also come in pink hearts, silver stars, and silver hearts, are quite delicate and didn’t impact the rise of the macarons at all.
There is a video link in the recipe if you are more of a visual person!
